I am so excited to be a part of the blog tour for The Fallen Queen by Jane Kindred. The Fallen Queen is being re-published with a stunning new cover.
You wanna know about the book and the incredible author? Well here ya go!
Jane Kindred
Blurb:Heaven can go to hell.Until her cousin slaughtered the supernal family, Anazakia’s father ruled the Heavens, governing noble Host and Fallen peasants alike. Now Anazakia is the last grand duchess of the House of Arkhangel’sk, and all she wants is to stay alive.Hunted by Seraph assassins, Anazakia flees Heaven with two Fallen thieves—fire demon Vasily and air demon Belphagor, each with their own nefarious agenda—who hide her in the world of Man. The line between vice and virtue soon blurs, and when Belphagor is imprisoned, the unexpected passion of Vasily warms her through the Russian winter.Heaven seems a distant dream, but when Anazakia learns the truth behind the celestial coup, she will have to return to fight for the throne—even if it means saving the man who murdered everyone she loved.
Jane Kindred began writing fantasy at age 12 in the wayback of a Plymouth Fury—which, as far as she recalls, never killed anyone…who didn’t have it coming. She spent her formative years ruining her eyes reading romance novels in the Tucson sun and watching Star Trek marathons in the dark. Although she was repeatedly urged to learn a marketable skill, she received a B.A. in Creative Writing anyway from the University of Arizona.
She now writes to the sound of San Francisco foghorns while two cats slowly but surely edge her off the side of the bed.
Now you know about the book and the author, let's give a big K-Books welcome to Jane Kindred!
K-Books: Hi Jane, Thanks so much for being on K-Books today. The Fallen Queen is being re-released with a stunning new cover. To me the cover screams "Read me NOW" It's just beautiful. What do you think of the re-release of it?
Jane: Thanks Kayleigh, and thanks for having me on K-Books! I am head-over-heels in love with the cover. The first cover makes sense once you've read the book, but I think it gave some readers the wrong impression of what it was about. The new cover is not only gorgeous, it really evoked the mood of the story as well.
So for those who haven't heard of the book can you give us a quick description of what it's about?
The Fallen Queen is an epic fantasy set in both a heaven that resembles late-Victorian-era St. Petersburg, Russia, and in modern-day St. Petersburg itself, and followed the plight of a celestial grand duchess who narrowly escapes when the rest of her family is murdered. It's a sort of fantastical take on the Anastasia story. There are angels and demons, Slavic fairies who guard mythical flowers in the Russian forest, White Nights, and winter night over the White Sea lit by the glow of aurora borealis.
I can't wait to read it. Were there any parts of the book that you enjoyed writing more than the other?
I really enjoyed writing the romantic relationships. I tend to find out who's into whom as I go, and I love the moment when a spark finally happens and two characters stop fighting their common sense and give in to the illogic of their attraction. And I especially like bringing two characters together who have allowed misunderstandings and hurt feelings to seperate them for too long.
Who was you favourite character to write?
Belphagor was, by far, my favourite, and he continues to be as I get further into the series. His snark and his slightly brusque manner comes really easily for me, and there's so much underneath the surface with him that I'm constantly discovering new things about him. His nature as a demon card sharp and thief gets him into a lot of interesting situations, and he's covered in Russian prison tattoos, which I find really sexy. And he has some rather interesting... proclivities. ;)
So what else can we expect from you in the future?
Books two and three of The House of Arkhangel'sk trilogy will be released in August of this year and March 2013. They tie up the overall story arc for Anazakia, but I'm currently at work on a second Arkhangel'sk trilogy that follows a different character.
Thank you so much for being on K-Books today.
Thanks for having me! It's a treat to be here. :)
